"Steer" Here for a Chance to Join this ARC Tour!

This contemporary MG novel is due out in May, 2014, from Abrams/Amulet. In Rebecca Petruck's debut, Steering Toward Normal, there is humor. There is heart. There's food for thought about what it means to be father and son, and what it means for 13yo Diggy to discover that one of his classmates just happens to be his half-brother. There's small-town, rural life, 4H, and the competitive raising of prize steers to show at the state fair, with a 12K purse at stake. There are plenty of April Fool's pranks. There may possibly be cow pies.

I have had the fun of being involved in Rebecca's ARC tour. I got the ARC from MG writer Kim Van Sickler. Rebecca asked us to take a photo or make a short video with the ARC, and said that we get bonus points for involving a steer. Okay -- do you think this counts as "involving a steer"?

Now for the continued fun: the ARC needs to go to a new reader. Because state fairs figure prominently in the story, it would be great if the ARC could visit as many states (especially ones that have state fairs!) as possible. Here's all you have to do to get your chance to be next in line:
1. Comment below, using either the word "STEERING" or "NORMAL" in your comment.
2. You need to live in the US for this one (sorry).
3. Live in a state OTHER THAN: North Carolina, Ohio, and Wisconsin, seeing as how the ARC has already pranked toured these states.

That's all there is to it. So, comment away! Winner will be announced TUESDAY, February 18.

I like that this ARC giveaway is out of the normal! =) It sounds like a fun read. I haven't been to our state fair in a few years as I'm not a fan of lugging around little babies in high heat. But this year...I think he might just be old enough! And I bet he'd love the cows. =)

That totally counts as a steer picture.

And Minnesota is HUGE lover of its state fair! I'd love to steer this ARC in a tour of my state.

Haha! Great steer picture. I love small farming community books and have had my eye on this one, so hoping and wishing that Steering Towards Normal comes my way. SC.

Well, steering toward our fair here in Connecticut is normally the highlight of our summer. :) I'd love to read this! I even know some cows who might be willing to pose with me...
(By the way, I have to mention a fair book ABOUT our fair by one of my favorite local authors: The Universe of Fair, by Leslie Bulion. I think you'd enjoy it!)

You have definitely "involved a steer." Just steer clear of those icy roads. On the other hand, if stuck, you've got a good book with you.

If cows will pose, that it great!

Actually, with all the weather here, I DON'T do that much steering these days.

What's normal? I say, steer towards individuality!

I love the premise of this book, not to mention that living in Texas should be enough for an extra point. :)

Marcia said...

Oh, Bish, I thought of that. Longhorns, and all. :)

Great picture! And cow pies? Oh oh. Sounds like such fun. And seeing I'm steering my way in Indiana on the ice today, I think that's normal.

Thanks for coming and entering, Christine! :)

This is a great tour -- steering an ARC from this blog to that. I love it, but no one ever accused me of being normal. California has a great state fair and it's only about 20 miles from my house. Thanks for the chance to read and share this book.
