Along with a writing friend, I spent Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning here, at the Audubon Inn, in Mayville, WI.
Yes, it is that gorgeous. And due to get even gorgeous-er, since they are updating the decor and making great new plans for the restaurant. All the rooms and suites are named after birds, and I stayed in The Falcon.
Yes, that's a falcon picture above the writing desk. And while I'm partial to the lace and flowers, I spent a lot of great time at THE DESK making good headway on my WIP. In the evenings, we visited over dinner (Chinese the first night, Italian the second), then repaired again to our respective rooms where, for me and I suspect also for her, there was more writing sandwiched between whirlpool sessions spent reading other people's fiction. We may have to make this an annual event!

Sounds all-around awesome, Marcia! And maybe somewhere my husband and I could spend our 20th anniversary this summer...
Gosh, that's a beautiful place. I need a retreat spot like that!
Barbara and Dawn -- The staff is WONDERFUL. The restaurant and bar are not currently open pending renovations, but Chinese, Italian, and Mexican are very much within walking distance. We had the first two and they were scrumptious. Small, SMALL town, but it's near the Horicon Marsh and there are outdoor activities: http://www.wistravel.com/cities_in_wisconsin/mayville_wisconsin/
Oh, that sounds and looks wonderful! So glad you could take that time.
What a lovely place to retreat from the world! And that bed is so inviting! I suppose I'd better just stick to the desk.
Sounds incredible! Every writer should get a retreat like this from time to time.
Faith -- It was a delight. :)
Vijaya -- The bed WAS very comfy. Good mattress and soft sheets. I slept better when I was back at home, though.
Kelly -- I began taking them pretty much annually (not every single year) when my youngest turned three.
Sounds like a fun time. Love the look of the building.
What a beautiful place to get away! I'm glad you had a good time. :)
That looks so awesome.
I've taken my writing on trips, but I'd love to dedicate a hotel or inn stay just to writing.
Oh, I think I could write in that environment. I'm a tad envious. :)
Janet -- Pretty, isn't it?
Emily -- It was great.
Medeia -- We wrote, walked, ate, and slept. That's all. I love simplicity. :)
Bish -- It was a very conducive environment. Kinda wish I was still there. Probably because it's another place I could be a homebody. :)
Lovely. Lucky ladies.
I have a thing for buildings, and that one is beautiful. Glad you got in good writing time and yummy food!
You made me so jealous, Marcia. What I wouldn't give to have a quiet few days to write and enjoy talking about writing.
So glad you had this opportunity.
Mirka -- I'm still picturing myself there.
Leandra -- I have a thing for buildings, too. Houses, especially.
Lee -- It's given me a whole new appreciation for writing away from home, which I didn't think I want to do that much of. Of course, can't do it TOO often. #pricetag
Looks a lovely room. Glad you enjoyed your stay
WordsPoeticallyWorth -- It was great. Thanks for stopping!
Hello again Marcia! It was great having you here as our guest, and we would certainly love to host you again sometime soon. Our new restaurant - NOLA North Grille - is now open and has been very well received. Perhaps we could set up a group outing for you and your writing companions?
All the best,
Keith
