What's on the Nightstand

What a nice place to retire to in the evening.
My nightstand is actually not as overburdened with books as it once was. I've found that if the pile is high enough to teeter, I tend to give each book less chance before I give up on it. What that means, I've realized, is that a tall TBR pile, at least these days, represents pressure to me. Well, perish the thought! It's taken discipline, but I've decided to have fewer books here at any one time. All the better to savor each one. But what's on the pile? Let's get closer.
That's CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, the Thompson Chain Reference Bible, another Bible with a pretty cover and a compact size that's easy to carry, and my journal. While Mere Christianity isn't always there, the other three are constants on the nightstand. And on the other stack:
Which means I can try some spine poetry:

What the Moon Said
Ghosts at Tupelo Landing
Below
Ice Dogs

What's on your TBR pile?

Oooh, I look forward to your reviews ... I have the Bible, Magnificat magazine, some works by St. Alphonsus, and a bunch science books in two separate piles. I love my kindle paperwhite because the piles are much more manageable.

Vijaya -- Yes, I hope to be able to review some of these. I carry my Nook in my purse. So compact!

I'm reading Don't Even Think About It and The Pledge. I have a pile of books on my dresser waiting after those.

Thank you for reminding me that my pile is teetering... Your home always looks like the epitome of tasteful sanity. I'm afraid mine never does...
Two in our pile are the same, the Bible and Ice Dogs.

What a coincidence. I just read What the Mood Said and am currently reading Ice Dogs!

Kelly -- Oh, my, yes, there are the second piles and the third piles.

Mirka -- Well there might have been some straightening prior to the photo. You are shocked, I'm sure.

Janet -- Great minds. :) Of course, current books, too.

I need to check my local library and see if they have a copy of WHAT THE MOON SAID yet. I'm looking forward to that one.

Nice manageable pile. Good idea not to stack so high you put pressure on yourself to speed up.

I'm reading The Ghosts of Tupelo Landing right now too! And I've had Below on my B&N wishlist for awhile, I'm really intrigued by the premise of an underwater town.

Barbara -- What the Moon Saw is by a fellow WI writer, and I'm really glad to see it's getting the attention it's getting.

Lee -- Yes, I've got to keep it looking inviting, not like a to-do list.

Leandra -- I'm going to post about Below on Thursday. No spoilers, though. :)

I feel pressured by those teetering piles too! Sometimes I just have to return everything to the library and start over. Right now I have a manageable stack: Leap of Faith by Jamie Blair, Undertow by K.R. Conway, and Some Quiet Place by Kelsey Sutton.

Ruth -- I've done that too -- returned everything to the library and started over. Or, I renew the titles that don't have holds on them, and immediately feel some breathing room. I'm also much more likely now to completely finish a stack before getting another.
